ArtExper

Want to put something in that left lower corner... mmm... used light molding past with stencils. The colors and design remind me of Albuquerque. Like how my mixture of colors is getting better. Still got to work on some of that stencil work not looking like blobs.

I really like the Clear Tar Gel... my experiments thus far are very iffy, not sure how to use it effectively yet.
Okay, experiment with pumice gel....with a little garnet -- the upper being light molding paste...{This is a before picture not finished, only paint is the blue in the molding paste 6/30} the whole thing went south when I started painting on it and the first actual in the trash, nothing salvageable piece. I've tried working with that pumice 3 times now with awful results, and I found not to put down the light molding paste by itself or without a plan. No way to save it later. Not fond of that pumice gel.
I wish someone would have put these in my hands first! I've had the "Creative Paint Workshop for Mixed Media" which as been very helpful with basics of composition, abstract design, new products and their application, but the "acrylic Revolution" is chalked full of techniques on how to use some of those Golden products I've been messing with, also great ideas; textures, transfers.. it's like going to an art class. Love it.
"Creative Edge" by Mary Todd Beam is taking all this knowledge and letting yourself go. There is one not shown "Expermenting with Color" which is teaching me a lot about color theory and application in step by step lessons that I find invaluable.

Have a great weekend!

Breathing

I've written about this before. We bought 5 acres in 1992, we built a home and fences and bridges through blood sweat, and tears. We raised two boys here -- I am facing that "For Sale" sign. We are running out of options. This pressure on my chest is daily... I write, I post, I make phone calls, I answer phone calls, I talk to my mom and sis, but we aren't close enough -- normal -- when normal isn't normal. When everything that has represented safety, when everything is not just unknown, it is a black hole. My brain keeps spitting out platitudes; count your blessings, things will get better, you never know what's on the other side -- living it...living it....not working right now. Faking it till you make it...somedays, and this is one, I just can't pretend for today.

Solstice Suprises!

It was a quiet, subtle beginning. Early dawn, finding tenny's, then camera, and out for a walk. Several pictures of the sun rising; there is something magical about watching that first ray, laser like, appear and grow. (that's the Superstition Mtns back there -- Lost Dutchman's mine myth and all that -- great hiking too.)

Threw scraps to the chickens, looking sharply at one of the Golden Buffs-- there was one 'she' that sure looked like a 'he' -- and then my first surprise sounded!  Walking away I'll be damned if 'he' didn't crow! As you may remember I really wanted a rooster when I started my to put together a new batch last Feb. To my delight one of the Leghorns was a rooster, but alas he died shortly. I knew my odds of another rooster in the pack were slim. A lesson in odds and gifts.

Then I uncovered my painting that I had put to rest for a few days "Mountain Dream." Was mostly satisfied with the results. Still, I look amateurish -- that's okay, I am, and am not sure if it is done, but it complimented the morning. That is a seagull feather from my last visit to the sea. Tried using the Clear Tar Gel with interesting effects as well as the heavy molding paste and the light.

And then lo and behold, I look at the kitchen window and Mr. Desert Tortoise is taking a morning stroll right past the dogs! Hubby caught this pic.

The salsa was a culinary delight rolling and crunching around in the mouth, sweet, hot -- perfect. A success!
used 1/4 of that Santa Claus, 1/2 jicama; bite size, 1/2 small seedless watermelon, two of those little pears worked great, but that mango was horrible to cut into, not ripe, flavorless - blech, went into the trash! 1/2 red onion, 1/2 of that heirloom tomato -- luscious!, one kiwi, should use two next time, 4 limes juiced in, & handful of cilantro - 1 serrano - not seeded, and one habanero seeded. It was just the right amount of hot -- people east of the Mississippi would think too hot and then there are those of us that could put in on more of each pepper, but I like it this way as the heat and back flavor of the habanero complimented rather than took away from the sweet melon.

I've had a fair amount of the mania going on for the last two weeks, which has now turned to the flip side; depression. The stress..blah blah, you know. Anyway, tomorrow is the dentist again, other side of my mouth for gum planing --fun times.

All this solstice activity prompted me to change the name of my blog -- which may, or may not take. I'll see, may just be an empty impulse.

Also you may notice my new links to the crisis in Iran. From 18 to 23 I was married to an Iranian, a wonderful man...we were just too young (sex was great though!) the infusion of culture made so much difference in my growth as a young woman, I regret nothing. It was 1978 and the hostage crisis began 6 months after we were married. I found out first hand about hatred when I came out of my apt to see my windshield bashed in, part of my family -- some aunts and uncles made judgments  without knowing any history of the US and Iran; the comments were embarrassing -- for them. I did my English 102 paper on the history of how we got to were we were with Iran and about the people; I did massive research and interviews. The professor called me in for plagiarism; I don't think he like my stance. It was an A paper, I showed him my proof and he gave me a B. I still feel close to that time, the TV images of streets filled with protester's remind me of the days of being glued to Ted Koppel's 10 pm report --- hence the links if anyone is interested.  Knowledge is understanding ==judgement is prejudice.

blessings -- hope to catch up after my mouth is numbed and I'm eating applesauce, miso soup and living on Jamba juice - 16 oz Bright eyed blueberry -- Yum!

Salsa Bowl -This-n-That

Father's Day weekend, Summer Solstice, sons home for the weekend, and some great awards to boot! -- What's a girl to do to? First it was clean house -- then it was off to the market -- Plenty of fresh fruits and Vegies --and a Whole Body cleanse to begin on the Solstice.

The market had some exotic fruits I couldn't resist so a fruit salsa started to create in my mind.

From left I'll start with the Kiwi, Jicama, Red onion, orange, Santa Clause melon, Cilantro, Habenero (HOT! - but great flavor) and then my first little discovery, an Ataulfo (isn't that name great?) Mango -- I'm not partial to mangoes, so I keep trying different varieties, but I think it will be a nice flavor and different texture amoungst all the crunch. The other discovery, a Forelle Pair -- I collected 3 has they are so small. Then serrano pepper and a very delious smelling heirloom tomato -- I so enjoy their flavor. Not showing is the limes, oops.  Don't know how much of any particular ingredient yet, but will let you now how it turns out.

Tori was very generous and graciously awarded me with some pretty spectacular awards to aspire to --  I think, though, this speaks more to Tori's beautiful soul than anything else.  Tori graduates today. (I hope the sun is shining!) She is a bright and gifted young lady. You might want to stop over and take a peak at her blog.

This award was developed by Tessa in honor of Dr Maithri Goonetilleke's birthday. Tessa was inspired by the way Dr Goonetileke reaches out to others and, with his humanity as her guide, she created this award "to acknowledge the depth and breadth of the warm open-heartedness from bloggers all over the world who reach out and touch their readers with their words." Tessa goes on to quote Dr Goonetilleke: "It has been my experience that whenever one human being reaches out to another in compassion, a bridge is built. A bridge which leads out of despair, into the light of hope and the possibility that tomorrow will hold a few less tears than yesterday."

Bohomom said of this award: Sarah from Cottage Garden Studio has beautifully described what this award means...
"The Mental Duck to Mental Swan Award is given to two amazing groups of bloggers;
1. To Bloggers who encourage and nurture others bloggers to explore and grow in their creative, spiritual or mental lives.
2. To Bloggers who are blooming and growing creatively, spiritually or mentally in their lives & sharing it on their blogs.

I started a blog with no clear purpose except maybe to find a place for my SoulCollage Cards. I was skeptical of blogging, friendships in cyberspace, but to quote the inspirational Hilary Clinton, "I found my voice." The authentic me and am still discovering what I'm passionate about.   Grace broke through that cynicism -- and humour, music, dancing, support! I think when you are supported, and others eyes see your precious gifts and only glance askance at your flaws -- you blossom -- at least I have.

Thank you Tori and I pass these awards to

WTJ Wk 3 -- Healing

The breaking of my journal last week inspired a weird sort of compassion. I felt very sorry for my little book and set about putting it back together. There is something very tender that emerges when you go about healing something.

This week, walking out of the movies, a group of three 11ish young girls  huddled around a baby bird fallen from of tree, obviously not long for this world, but it's little beak was open trying to breathe and little eyes shut as one of the girls cradled it in her palm. When I walked by they looked at me wondering what to do. I've been here when my boys were younger, when I was younger, and there was nothing at all that could be done except to set it back down on the ground under the tree.

The smooth faces, fly-away hair, bare legs and arms in shorts and strapped tee's, and the earnest  "What if we do___?" questions reminded me of those careless summer days of youth, of tiny heartbreaks that made one grow-up a little bit when one wasn't looking. The bird could not be healed, but the desire was there. There was a little connection of love between us five as the one girl laid the tiny thing back on the ground. I turned to leave while those three, fledglings themselves, stayed behind, probably doing that thing us women still do when together during grief, confusion & transitions -- finding comfort in our sisterhood.

I've enjoyed that unexpected gift with this journal -- the sisterhood.

So, here is my healed book, much better than before, and a new motto on the front {click on the picture to read it,} and it smells so heavenly too!

Bright Blessings

WTJ Wk 2 -- Observing

These two pictures added to blog later in the day -- I forgot about my blue circles and new art supplies being so surprised at my book actually breaking!  These are the little new dew drop chalk inks. I love the colors.  Sorry I was cranky this morning. I think my journal was more sorry.

I woke up very CRABBY this morning! When I opened my journal it fell on this page so I very aggressively swung the book in my right hand against the short end of open door. This felt so good I did it four more times and to my utter surprise the book broke in half! Can you believe it?? I stood there looking down for 1/2 a sec striking silent my brain think, blinking. I REALLY destroyed the book. OMG this was too ironic! Now what?  Take a picture. It is still there, across from me as I type  -- my superstitious nature is wondering if it is a sign.

This week I found myself observing my reactions to the prompts in WTJ and after declaring my independence last week was surprised to find resistance. I didn't want to sew and said so, but have decided I'll find some thread and give it a go. I saw a page instructing to throw it out and one that said give away your favorite page! What? My adult did not want to trash a page, it was akin to burning books, and my little girl definitely did not want to share her favorite page. She didn't know what it was yet and it may be really good!
This made me wonder why. I've got some guess's worth exploring.

Another observation was I thought the outside of the book very ugly and did not want to carry it with me, let alone sleep with it. Now what the hell does that say about me? I'm a closet snob? mmm
My husband was horrified while I gleefully tore up the front page. It was a good thing this pyro decided to burn over sink... things almost got carried away!! had to douse it under the water and now the book has this wonderful over used, fell in the bathtub look! (well, it did) Writing on the closed pages reminded me of HS, bored, writing aimlessly. This prompted a exercise where I started drawing a little guy jumping in the lower right corners of several pages -- this was SO Fun!! -- creating my own small movie.

Yes, I wrote bad words on my four letter word page -- and then crossed them out -- this is PG after all. :)

The pictures were taken over a piece of practice art. Filling in the T's with red marker and noticing they looked like crosses so I went over them making them more obvious made me feel positively devilish!

I found many of my reactions spilling into real life. I tore up my house to rearrange it. I didn't bust ass to cook when my son came home with a guest and when my out of state relatives came to visit and consequently more of hubby's family came. It was weird. No one is hardly ever at our house and the minute I turn the kitchen into a pseudo studio with no place to sit and full of art that is absolutely neophyte, people show up. Very odd signs this week.

I enjoyed the hidden messages I found out about myself this week. This isn't just about breaking rules, or making pretty art, or getting creative -  It is also about WRECKING and exploring my reactions to that wrecking. Very, very unexpected. Had me smiling sideways.

Hope your weekend is full of surprises!

June Full Moon

I decided to give Jamie Ridler's Full Moon Dreamboard a shot. Hopes and dreams for the month and the summer for me.  This was a great practice for me to get back to SoulCollage® as well.  Of course it had to be round on my first try in honor of both the Full Moon and the Sun's Summer Solstice.

Blessings sent out to everyone today. I feel like I'm standing on the fulcrum of a teeter-totter lately and think other's may be under the same spell. I'm hanging in! Life sure is unpredictable. Though summer and June always make me feel stronger.

A good, long swim is necessary I think. Living in the head is a dangerous neighborhood!

Marilyn Monroe

Oh! I forgot to mention, in all the upheaval of stuff yesterday I came across my Dad's album from when he was stationed in Japan during the Korean War.

It was a Holy Cow! moment -- He's got pictures he took of Marilyn Monroe!    We literally gasped with surprise!  Must have been with the USO.  Wonder if they are worth anything? Not sure I'd part with them though.

Got a Bee in my Bonnet

Okay, I'm watching a how-to DVD on making paper for collages and I start thinking I need more space.  I have epherma in bags all over the floor, I have drawers of paint and scissors I can't lay my hands on when I want, images scattered, all in this tiny corner in the study, which is too dark too.  I need light and space!!!

This thought becomes a compulsion and my mind starts tally up rooms in the house; moving imaginary furniture, rejecting ideas, and trying to get cleverly creative.

So I start thinking what about here? The kitchen? The boys aren't here that much, I can save an end to eat at if necessary. ;) I can convert the bookshelves not seen on the right to hold bins of my stuff  ---labeled! My Art table will fit where the roll top desk is, (not seen.) Hubby thinks I'm crazy -- nothing new there--he's practical and conservative and I'm...not. :) (looks worried, doesn't he?)
After much enthusiasm, prompted by I know I can do better art that will eventually sell if I move into a bigger area (which remains to be seen,) and calling my oldest son, who at first sympathized with dad because everyone knows what happens when mom gets a bee in her bonnet (lots of manual labor,)  but upon hearing what I wanted it for promptly switched sides (he's an artist too, photographer and writer,) poor beloved realizes he has been boxed in and agrees to help me move furniture.

So all day yesterday we move and clean.  Cuz you can't move furniture without 'having' to clean. We pulled a small couch out of the study to put in the front sitting room. Pulled a rolltop desk out of the kitchen to put in the study, and an old TV table/roller thingy from the bedroom to the kitchen & the art table to the kitchen. Plus I washed towels all day. The cat had an excellent time!

Problem with pulling crap out is ....

It gets worse before .....   (I think Wreck This Journal had a hand in this) Needed to take the door off to get the couch out.

it gets better. Ta Da!!!
See, end of table for eating?  O gawd -- Thanksgiving is going to be interesting.

Picking up butcher paper this week, and will move a bookcase from the carport to the study to put the cookbooks in so the book case in the kitchen can hold the boxes, bins and bags of epherma tomorrow when youngest son gets here -- I am so frickin sore -- who knew your the little muscles in your hands could hurt. Still have to organize epherma and clean out under TV thingy, and the inside of the roll top desk has been a catch all for stuff I haven't seen in years, , but I chose not to think about that, happy with my new Larger space and all the possibilities!

Smiles and blessings,

P.S. Oh, and an aside for those that knew how excited I was about one of my hens being a rooster -- sadness -- Foghorn J. Leghorn bit it in the heat last Thursday -- didn't want to mention it on Wreck this Journal day, everyone was to excited. Pretty bummed. Did hear him that once though.

WTJ Wk 1 -- Authority

Okay, confessions of a rule breaker. I've never, ever, that I can remember, done anything the way someone told me to. Rules are made to be broken. Unfortunately this can ruin diets and resolutions and religion. But, hey, when it comes to authority figures and rules, it's a compulsion. My sons loved it because some mornings I would drive right past their school and straight to the Zoo. (not often, but enough to let them know this world isn't ruled by rule makers.)

I digress. Upon purchasing this book and reading through it two things I wanted to do asap was eat blue candy and press my tongue on that page, and the one about wrapping twine around the spine and twirling it through the air, -- I planned on hitting walls with it, but then thought of the paint job recently done -- damn it! adult reality and money -- it's always the money that keeps the us from having "kid" fun. I did immediately break the spine though. :)

Anyway, not having any twine or blue candy at hand, the fruit sticker page caught my attention. I did have fruit in the fridge and I could start right away! As the weeks went by I noticed I had the same Gala, Fuji, Oso onion stickers and got bored. So there was an old stamp in the junk drawer and I twist tie -- hey! I could break rules right off the bat in a rule breaking book! Made my day!

I've showed it to my family and everyone wants to do something to it. We've all laughed very much and it has sparked great conversation on rules and authority.

Thanks Jamie -- I'm off to see what others did to theirs already. (later -- I'm meeting new bloggers, this is great :):) :)... I have to go burn a page!

Blessings,
Cyn

God? my journey

This was inspired by Bill's blog today, Thought Sketches.

The existence of God: a question for the ages. What am I actually being asked? Am I asking myself the reason for the origin of all that is seen and unseen? The purpose of human existence? Is it about the God beyond the realm of all created things or the God within? Is the question about life after death?

Early man explained itself through the cycles of the sun, moon and earth, later gods were named for these phenomena; an explanation for the frightening unknown world they lived in. What makes us so sure we are not frightened now and making up answers?

The question of God has spawned offerings and celebrations, human sacrifices and saints, religious practices and atheistic dogma, wars and community, dinosaurs vs. Intelligent Design; the first cause as an intelligent being and therefore the source of purpose and design in the universe. Is it the God Spot; neural circuitry in our brain wired for a belief system or another form of evolution and the continuation of our species? Is it past life regression or genetic memory? Is all life suffering as the Buddha reveals or, as a Christians, one is born with original sin in which one must spend a lifetime suffering purposely to attain the golden life promised after death? Is it Pagan respect for all life forms with many god's and goddesses or Nietzsche? Is it What the Bleep?or The Passion of the Christ? Judaism or Jehovah Witness', Integral Spirituality or Science of the Mind? Green vMEME's or corn pollen blown to the east wind in the morning, smudging yourself with sage. Dropping to your knees five times a day to worship your God or wearing a red string on your left wrist to ward off the evil eye? Aristotle or C.S. Lewis? Attaching personal, humanistic anthromorphic qualities to a god or are we interfacing with bouncing sub-atomic particles? The Bible or the Popol Vuh? Iyanla Vanzant or Joyce Meyer? Alien abductions or The Force? Meditation or gardening? Did we actually choose the life we are born to? Does the mass murderer, pedophile, committer of human atrocities stand under the same umbrella of unconditional love espoused virtually by all religious or spiritual practices?

Many, many viewpoints and theories are propounded but theories are instruments, not answers to enigmas.

My Journey, skip ahead if it bores you. I started out a Catholic moved to atheism- my dad died unexpectedly, what can I say, I folded. So much for faith. A few years later I started coming around again. Studied Philosophy at college, hung having great, intense discussions. Love it! Then to agnostic, onward to Paganism and Wiccanism, studied with a Shaman in New Mexico for a summer, of the Black Smoky Mirror, forget its Nautl name; loved the ritual and the touch nature and it’s layers through space and time, Carlos Castenda, of course, discovered patriarchy and Goddess which led to the study of Summeria and more history of man; Robert Graves and "The Golden Bough, Elaine Pagels, Dead Sea Scrolls, and most of Joseph Campbell’s work.

Forward into Buddhism; loved don't believe anything until it is something you have shown to be true in your mind, the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path -- highly subjective though and in the end all religion and spirituality is what you want to think about it. Krishnamurti said "The human being is not a local entity," clever.

Read "The Problem of the Soul," and decided that our only reason for existence was to propagate the species. Went atheist again and got really depressed for a year about the whole thing; life potentially being a pointless endeavor. Decided we are just a brain; and read everything on neuroscience. Read "Descartes Error," "The Mind & The Brain; Neuroplasticity and the Power of Mental Force," and Frances Cricks' "The Astonishing Hypothesis," and ended with "The Blank Slate," and "The Alphabet versus the Goddess." My brain was officially full. Got sandbagged by the new pop culture of Kabbalism and made a left turn. Gently took myself back to the Tao of Pooh. I needed a rest.

Tried Course in Miracles and appreciated the non duality. "What the Bleep?" made sense but was full of holes, pun intended and so does Taoism; and back to agnostic I went; Watched "Contact" again and a lot of Bill Mahr to regain my sense of reality.

Discovered Spiral Dynamics and Integral Spirituality and was almost all the way down that path; common sense, states and stages, touching all of our potentials, wow, until the hierarchy of it all and the language used disturbed my calm. In any case that school of thought has been set aside for now. Spending more time just being in the present.

My belief in God varies between pragmatic, cynical, empirical, scientific, awe and laughter. Many years ago I had one of "those" mystical experiences rendered in perfect love. Eventually I managed to explain it away. Not all of it though.

So my conclusion is this: Wouldn't be wonderful to just accept life as a gift? That's it. There is no answer for me, just more questions every time I peel back another layer. Today is my gift. The point is picking something, anything and playing with it, having faith even it is only in this day. I know this: you are never hung out to dry, you are never left alone. I don't know how this is true but it is so. Whether anything exists after death is not the point anymore, at least to me. Letting down my fears and barriers long enough to let the Infinite through the cracks and hopefully the cracks get wider and my wisdom greater and my judgment less.

I know it makes me happy to educate myself on whatever level I happen to be. So, I think the more provocative question to ask should be: "Why should the existence of God be considered in the first place?" It’s what you want it to be in the end.

Comparative theology is much better than apologetics; lots of room for philosophy, psychology, and history, not that apologetics doesn't have that, it just myopic to my mind.  And theology doesn't require divine revelation to believe in God, but perhaps a more anthropological view, the phenomena of religions, and mostly it is about subjective truth: faith – for me anyhow...again... in the end.

Introducing Foghorn J. Leghorn

Okay amazing! I hoped to get one when I picked out chicks and we did! I woke up at 5 this morning and the sunrise was an orange fire in the sky, so I grabbed my camera the cyber and the Minolta. The chickens are all and about, happy in the morning scratching, and lo and behold -- the sound of a young rooster. I just started laughing, OMG! We got one! I was suspicious a few weeks ago looking at the largest leghorn, but sometimes I've been wrong so I waited quietly... keeping an eye on those back feathers, the comb and the wattle... no spurs yet.

The debut of Foghorn J. Leghorn in honor of Looney Tunes and Mel Blanc.
Dino DNA??? This is the Surviving Black Sex Link. Finally looked up the reason for the name "Sex Link." Sex-Links are chickens which can be sexed at hatching, usually by color. Black Sex-Links are produced using a Barred Rock as the mother. Black Sex-Links are often referred to as Rock Reds.

So I'm going to call her "Red."
Stalag 13 -- Well here's the Silkie, dubbed Miss Prissy and on the other side the old ladies-- they started pecking on eggs and had to go to the goat pen. Don't feel too bad for them, they get our scraps. mmm yummy. The speckled ones are Barred Rocks.
Family Photo - Miss Prissy is behind the post. She runs every time I pull out the camera.
Towards the back are the three Golden Buffs. The colorful ones in front: A Golden Sex-Link pullet -- this is supposed to be a cross between a Rhode Island Red and a Rhode Island White
I had a GREAT Morning!  Almost forgot about wearing my shirt inside out yesterday, and not noticing, for a long time while in the grocery store ! LOL

Have any great names for the other chicks? Love to hear them!

Smiles

Congratulations Into the Dawn!

Oh my gosh!! I received Dawns beautiful Solstice pendant today!  She WON too at Polymer Clay Smooshers.  Congratulations Dawn!! I LOVE IT!!!!! It is even more beautiful, if that is possible, than the picture, the different yellows are so subtle and the craftsmanship is amazing. I can feel the your energy and the Solstice energy radiating when holding it in my hands.

I have to say, Summer solstice is my favorite Wiccan/Pagan turn of the wheel holiday. It used to be Samhain, but I feel my energy, my spirit at it's strongest, most content in June. I've always managed to get to Rocky Point alone for three days on the Solstice and I have the most amazing tarot readings at that time. Summer is when I use the Thoth deck. My decks call to me every season change.

The pendant is so infused with energy of Summer Solstice! You have a gift Dawn. I'm so glad I have a little piece of it.

Bright Blessings

PS -- I'm a Blue Crayon!  Found this via Vulture's Peak and  Saoirse,
take the test! Sort of true....
Your world is colored in calm, understated, deep colors.
You are a loyal person, and the truest friend anyone could hope to find.
On the inside, you tend to be emotional and even a bit moody.
However, you know that people depend on you. So you put on a strong front.

Your color wheel opposite is orange. Orange people may be opinionated, but you feel they lack the depth to truly understand what they're saying.
